LAURA

PRODUCTION

Otto Preminger

INTRIGUE

A policeman investigates the murder of a young woman, but falls in love with her portrait. When Laura reappears, the mystery deepens.

CRITICAL RECEPTION

A masterpiece of film noir. The New York Times writes: “Laura is Gene Tierney. More an appearance than a performance.”

THE ROLE OF GENE

Laura Hunt, a figure both real and fantasized. She becomes the very embodiment of the feminine mystery. The role was to have gone to Jennifer Jones. Preminger insisted on Gene, whom he felt was uniquely suited to the role of a woman both tangible and unreal.
